William Marshal's Sergeant Art Print

Regular price $35.00 Sale

The Battle of Lincoln (1217 A.D.) was considered such a crucial and pivotal incident in medieval England that the English- under the Regent (and most popular knight of his age) William Marshal fighting and leading the forces of the young King Henry III against the Rebel English Baronial forces being led by the French Prince Louis VIII - considered a crusade and they wore a white cross on their surcoats representing God and Kingdom.   William Marshal's forces won the day and this loss convinced Prince Louis VIII that the attempt to gain control of the English Kingdom was futile.

This 18" x 24" oil painting (on canvas mounted to panel) represents a Sergeant fighting for William Marshal and the boy king, King Henry III... a small white cross pinned to the breast on his surcoat.
